WAS THE KEY TO EVERYTHING
The brand was born between Grosseto and the beaches of the island of Maui, in Hawaii. The first water sports products signed by the young windsurfer Roberto Ricci are full of typically Italian creativity: this is how special boards are born, unique pieces designed and handcrafted to win windsurfing competitions around the world.
It was 1989 when all this happened, and shortly after, what was an unconscious passion for the wind and waves became much more. In Hawaii, Ricci discovered the secrets of surf gurus and treasured them, becoming a shaper, designing and building windsurf boards. A job done exclusively by hand, board after board, with a tape measure and sandpaper, like a true surfboard craftsman.

From 1989 to 1994, RRD created prototypes of windsurf boards and beachwear, but the first collection of surf shorts, t-shirts, and bermudas was born in 1994.
In 1995, Ricci founded a new company specializing in clothing (Montecristo Srl) together with creative director Roberto Bardini. A company destined to change the future of outerwear.

TECHNO TAILORING:
THE EVOLUTION OF LYCRA
Innovation and constant research from the world of water sports have allowed the creation of high-tech clothing in continuous evolution, unique products that combine experience and innovation.
Every piece in the collection, stripped of every superfluous element and reinterpreted in a techno-tailored key by creative director and CEO Roberto Bardini, has shown the true soul of the brand’s philosophy: tailored cuts and high-tech fabrics, glamorous lines, and material performance are the distinctive features of RRD style. Garments crafted to perfection, in perfect Italian style, capable of telling an authentic story, which encompasses research and experience, attention to detail and design.
The SURFLEX® fabric is the distinctive and evolved material thanks to RRD – robertoriccidesigns’ experimental research.
For over nine years, thanks to the company’s aquatic sports heritage, also famous for the production of wetsuits, this fabric has become the most used in all RRD collections.

- Essentiality and purity of spirit are the guiding principles that have driven RRD‘s creativity in the search for clean and harmonious forms. The garments are deliberately “stripped” of every superfluous element, in search of their essence and pure design combined with material technology and color in its truest form.
The future of garments designed dynamically and in relation to body movements was the beginning of the FW 13-14 collection of RRD – robertoriccidesigns.
The company’s research led to the development of technologies capable of freeing garments from traditional seams and replacing them with state-of-the-art welding and taping techniques.
To achieve this, a special version of Lycra named SURFLEX® was used, subjected to antibacterial and breathable treatments, highly elastic and ideal for following every body movement. Innovation and constant research in the world of water sports have allowed the creation of pants, skirts, bermudas, dresses, shirts, and outerwear that fluidly follow body movements, like a second skin.
A collection in evolution that expresses extreme freedom of movement and dynamism. The production of fabrics, as well as the design of garments, embodies the TRADITION OF ITALIAN STYLE, while the finishes and details are handled almost obsessively, bypassing any market logic but ensuring that the production process creates the best possible final product.
