Herman Melville MARDI
Mardi is the third novel by Herman Melville, published in 1849, after Omoo and Typee. Although often associated with the previous two, Mardi stands alone and, unlike the other two, is not autobiographical.
In this illustrated edition, Melville takes us to the South Pacific islands with an American whaler who
deserts his ship, setting out to sea in search of adventure and, probably, himself. It is this personal quest that prevails, with experiences in Mardi intensified by profound philosophical reflections on concepts of nation, politics, institutions, literature, and religion.
Mardi has been revised, translated, and illustrated by Roberto Abbiati, Federico
Canaccini, and Alice Mazzini, concluding the trilogy that RRD Books has dedicated to the author’s lesser-known and more visionary works.
